The memorial ceremony for the thousands of Romani killed during the Second World War was organized by the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Russian Roma. The event traditionally took place on the riverwalk of the Moscow river, and funeral wreaths were floated on the river's waters.
Among those who took part in the ceremony were the President of the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Russian Jews Nadezhda Demeter, the art director of the “Romen” State Romani Theater, People's Artist of the USSR Nikolai Slichenko, and Chairman of the Synod Department on the Interaction of the Church and Society of the Russian Orthodox Church Protopapas Vsevolod Chapline.
In his speech at the ceremony, Michael Chlenov stressed that the Jews who survived the Holocaust naturally empathize with the Romani people and assured the representatives of the Romani community of FNJCA support, as well as expressed hope that the relationship between the two autonomies will strengthen in the future.
