Exhibition on Rebirth of Russian Jewish Traditions Takes Place in Berlin
12.04.2013 In Berlin, a photo exhibition by Russian photographers opened at the Friedrichstrasse Russian House of photos. The exhibition was titled “Jews in Russia: A Rebirth of Traditions,” which was organized by the Jewish National Foundation. The exhibition was prepared with the aid of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress PR Department. Before the exhibition traveled to Germany, it had been opened in Moscow, Tel-Aviv and other Russian and Israeli cities.
Raphael Feinberg, Jewish National Foundation Director, says, “It was very important for us to not oly give this exhibition in Berlin before the sacred Victory Day, but to announce it as widely as possible. And we succeeded. The Russian House inserted our exhibition between others presented by the A. S. Pushkin Museum, the World Art Foundation and other important organizations.”
The President of the Foundation, Head of the Federal Jewish National Cultural Autonomy Vladimir Shternfeld notes, “We can see that the exhibition was well-liked by the visitors not only from the many positive responses in our guestbook, but through the particular suggestions made by our visitors. An interesting idea was given by the Ambassador of Belarus to Germany, Andrei Giro. He suggested that we widen the scope of our exhibition by including other photos from the former Soviet Union, including Belarus. Visitors who originally hailed from Ukraine had regretted that there were no photos depicting the current life of Ukrainian Jews. We have much to think about, and perhaps we will implement these suggestions and widen our geography.”
