EAJC Representative Participates in Conference on the Kurd Problem
30.04.2013 Euro-Asian Jewish Congress PR Department Head Roman Spector has taken part in the III International Conference “The Role of Democratization in the Near and Middle East in the Solution of the Kurd Problem.” The conference took place at the Diplomatic Academy in Moscow. Among those who took part in its work were representatives of the Kurd communities of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan; representatives of the socio-political structures of Syria and Turkey; representatives of the Federation Council of Russia and relevant departments of the Ministry of International Affairs, leading Russian and foreign experts, workers of national-cultural autonomies and nongovernmental organizations of Russia.
In their speeches conference participants noted that “a new approach to solving the problems of the regions that would take into account the specifics of Near Eastern society has become necessary due to the latest events in the Near and Middle East.”
The conference adopted a final document calling for the leadership of the Russian Federation to increase its influence on the situation in the region.
As Roman Spector noted, “The conference in Moscow could become an antecedent to an international meeting under UN aegis. Notably, similar discussions once led to the political decision on Jewish independence. Hopefully, the decision of the “Kurd question,” long necessary, will find its own peaceful and democratic way. This conference is one of the steps in that direction.”
