EAJC Secretary General Speaks At RF State Duma Round Table
30.04.2013 On April 29, Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Vice President of the Federal-Jewish National Cultural Autonomy (FJNCA) Michael Chlenov participated in a round table titled “On the Role of National Cultural Autonomies in the Social and Cultural Adaptation and Integration of Migrants into Russian Society: Problems and Perspectives.” The discussion was organized by the State Duma Committee on Nationalities.
Michael Chlenov and FJNCA Director General Evgeniya Mikhaleva spoke in their reports on the current problems in Russian inter-ethnic relationships and pointed out to the gathering that national-cultural autonomies are non-profit organizations that could provide migrants with services to facilitate their cultural and social integration into Russian society.
Chlenov proposed introducing a special legal status for national-cultural autonomies, similar to Cossack unions, and to enter this new form of corporate communal responsibility, which must be more than just a non-governmental organization, into the national register.
“In general, it is the national-cultural autonomy which should become the representative institute for a national community in the government,” the EAJC Secretary General stressed.
