EAJC Participation in the Annual Forum of the American Jewish Committee
07.06.2013 On June 2-4, a delegation of representatives of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) led by EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels participated in the Global Forum of the American Jewish Committee – an annual congress traditionally taking place in Washington.
During his visit to Washington, Josef Zisels held a working meeting with the leaders of the Society of Bolekhiv City Natives (Ivano-Frankovskaya Oblast) on continuing the restoration of the Bolekhiv synagogue and creating the Museum of History and Culture of Eastern Galycian Jews. NCSJ Executive Director on Community Services and Cultural Affairs Lesley Weiss was also present at the meeting. Weiss had reently been appointed to Chair of the Heritage Abroad Commission.
The EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels also held meetings with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipoteniary of Ukraine to the USA Olexander Motsyk, the NCSJ Executive Director Mark Levin, and the Director of the American Jewish Committee on International Affairs Rabbi Andrew Baker.
The two last meetings included a discussion on the Ukrainian situation. According to Josef Zisels, some of the Jewish partners of the EAJC in the USA have the wrong impression of the current situation in Ukraine, especially on the place of anti-Semitism in the life of Ukrainian society, possibly under the influence of Jewish activists close to the authorities.
