Lectures of Israeli Scholar in Kyiv with EAJC support
07.06.2013 On May 20-27, the Israeli scholar Dr. Arkadi Zeltser, a Yad-Vashem reprentative, read a mini-course titled “Jews in Ukraine in Context of USSR Social Life Between the Wars” at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The course was organized with Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) support.
The mini-course consisted of six lectures, during which special attention was given to Soviet policy towards national minorities and its changes in the 1920-1930s as well as to the role of the Jews themselves in the difficult social processes of those years: which choices they made and how they adapted to a changing environment.
The students of this mini-course were mostly from the EAJC master's program in Jewish studies, opened last year at the initiative of VAAD Ukraine and working with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
Among the organizations which supported Dr. Zeltser's visit were the Chase Center of the Jewish University of Jerusalem, the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter Initiative, the Association of Jews of Galitsia and Bukovina, the Nativ Bureau, and the Israeli Cultural Center in Kyiv.
