International Children’s Camp Roots of Tolerance Begins Work in Georgia
26.09.2013 On September 24, 2013, over 120 participants from 11 national communities from Georgia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan took part in the opening ceremony of the “Roots of Tolerance - Caucasus - 2013” camp led by Miroslav Greenberg. The camp is based in Anakliya, at the “Camp of the Future” recreation center.
Over the course of 10 days, children will be studying the culture, traditions, history, religion, songs, and dances of different peoples. The camp will have days of Azerbaijani, Armenian, Georgia, Jewish, Kurdish, Osetin, and Ukrainian culture. The camp’s program is based on a unique method titled “Immersion in Culture,” which has been tested during the 12 years of the camp’s run.
The camp is organized by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and the Analytical Center for Interethnic Cooperation and Consultations with the support of the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry of Georgia.
The project is sponsored by the World Vision international organization and EAJC Vice Presidents Mikhail Mirilashvili and Mark Shabad. The “Roots of Tolerance - Caucasus - 2013” became the sixth camp for children and teenagers organized by the EAJC this season.
The project of the International Children’s Camp Roots of Tolerance was initiated by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and tested in Ukraine, where the camp has been taking place annually since 2002. In 2011, a similar project began in Moldova, and in 2012 camps began taking place in Georgia, as well. Project website: tolerspace.org.ua.
