Leonid Levin Obituary
06.03.2014, Region The leadership and workers of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress have learned with great sadness of the demise of our friend Leonid Levin, who was a long-standing member of the EAJC General Council and who lead the Jewish community of Belarus for many years.
A distinguished architect from Belarus, he headed the Jewish community from the earliest moments of its rebirth and for dozens of years has given all his strength to preserving the memory of the Jewish presence on Belarusian land, to creating a vibrant Jewish community life in Belarus.
Under his leadership, the Union of Belarusian Jewish Organizations and Communities became and active and important part of Belarusian community life, a respected organization by the Belarusian government and the global Jewish community.
The memory of Leonid Mendelevich will be preserved in the intense memorials he created and placed in Minsk, Khatyn, and other cities and villages of Belarus. His memory will be preserved in the work of the strong and dynamic Jewish community which he fostered. All of those who had the good fortune to work and talk with this bright, talented, devoted man will keep his memory deep in their hearts.
In our prayers we ask the Almighty to lay him to rest with the righteous and to give solace to his family and friends.
