The Albanian Jewish community has sent an official application to join the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), in which it informs the governing bodies of the Congress of the unequivocal decision to join the EAJC.

The decision was made following the visit of the EAJC Secretary General Michael Chlenov and EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels to a number of Balkan states, including Albania. The community of Bosnia and Herzegovina also expressed a firm intention to join the EAJC after the visit. Montenegro and Serbia are already members of the Congress.

The Albanian Jewish community had been officially registered in 2014. Its President is Geri Kureta, and Secretary General is Amos Dojaka. The community is relatively small and largely secular yet adhering to traditional cultural values.

The statement sent to the EAJC reads: “It would be our honour and privilege to become members of the EAJC and to closely cooperate with you on important issues such as establishing a unified platform, a constitution and providing our modest but unique contribution in advancing Jewish cause and interests on a global level.”
