The final stage of the 15th traditional annual I. B. Medvinsky competition “History and Lessons of the Holocaust” took place on May 16-18 in Kyiv. The competition is being held by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (Director - Euro-Asian Jewish Congress General Council member, Dr. Anatoliy Podolsky) with the support of the EAJC, the Council of Europe, the “Memory, Responsibility and the Future” foundaiton, and the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine.

Students from all over Ukraine whose works were selected for the final stage gathered in Kyiv to defend their work before a committee. This year, 50 high school students from 15 Ukrainian regions took part in the competition, as well as their peers from Belarus and Moldova. Approximately 100 people in all participated in the work of the competition, including the students themselves, their advisors and teachers, and the committee, which was made up of important Ukrainian scholars, teachers, and public figures. Besides the defense itself, students also attended lectures, took part in seminars, watched movies, and went on a guided tour of the Babiy Yar shooting site.
