On June 5, 2015, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Chairman, Co-Chairman of the Associaton of Jewish Communities and Organizations (VAAD) Ukraine Josef Zisels met with the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Germany to Ukraine Christof Weil and the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Henryk Litwin.

Two main themes were discussed at the meeting: the ambivalent reaction in Ukraine and the world to the four laws on decommunization that were recently passed by the Ukrainian Parliament and signed by its President, Petro Poroshenko, and the new project “European Camp,” initiated by VAAD and Congress of National Communities of Ukraine. This new project is likely to be supported by a number of foundations and private sponsors, as well as the EAJC.

As for the aforementioned laws, it was noted that the different aspects and possible consequence of their passing need to be studied thoroughly and in detail, particularly how they conform to basic international documents on human rights and whether it is possible to make amendments of laws that have been already passed to reduce their potential to generate conflict.
