The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) has issued a statement on the devastating flood in the Georgian capital, which has led to human casualties. The statement, signed by Julius Meinl, the EAJC President, and Mikhail Mirilashvili, the First Vice-president, says: "The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) deeply mourns the victims of disasters in Tbilisi together with the people of Georgia. The EAJC expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the number of victims has not increased.

For thousands of years Georgia has been and remains a hospitable home for the Jewish community. The Jews will always remember the warm, good-neighborly relations that connect them with the Georgian people. And today, when Georgia has suffered so greatly, the EAJC expresses solidarity to its people and government.

EAJC wishes Tbilisi to recover from this terrible tragedy, and expresses its readiness to assist the people of Georgia to overcome the consequences of the flood."
