Leadership and staff of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) mourn the passing of Lord George Weidenfeld, prominent British philanthropist, publisher, public figure and a member of the Jewish community.

During the perestroika years, Lord Weidenfeld had actively supported the first steps of reviving Soviet Jewish community movement. He has provided great support to the young Jewish communal institutions in Russia and other post-Soviet countries in establishing contacts with Jewish bodies in Germany and the UK.

EAJC expresses deep condolences to the widow, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren of George Weidenfeld. The memory of this extraordinary man will always be with us.
