Minsk hosted a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities (SBEOOO), member of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC). The meeting was attended by representatives of the Israeli Embassy in Belarus, JDC, the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Israeli cultural center.
Boris Gersten, SBEOOO Chairman, member of the EAJC General Council made a short report on the work done by SBEOOO in the previous quarter. He read a letter addressed to him by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which the continuation of the Israeli embassy in Minsk has been confirmed.
Julia Racinski-Spivakov, Chargé d'Affaires of Israel said that the reopening of the embassy will develop many interesting initiatives. Among them – Days of Israeli Culture, events of which will be held within one month in Minsk, Brest, Vitebsk and Grodno.
Galina Levina, SBEOOO Vice Chairman spoke about the work of the Commission, which was created to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the Minsk ghetto.
Boris Gersten on behalf of SBEOOO presented a commemorative gift to Leonid Rubinstein, the former head of the Jewish community of Bobruisk, noting how much he has done for the community and the city as a whole.
