Congratulations from EAJC President Julius Meinl to Volodymyr Groisman

                  18.04.2016

The President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Julius Meinl sent congratulations to Vladimir Groisman on the appointment as the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

                  The message says:

                  Dear Volodymyr Borisovych!

On behalf of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, which unites Jewish communities of 23 countries of this region, I would like to congratulate you on being elected to the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine! We are certain that the Ukrainian Parliament has made the right choice, and you will lead the Cabinet of Ministers wisely and effectively, in the name of justice and for the good of the Ukrainian people.

Your election to the position of Prime Minister is a vivid testament to the European path of development which Ukraine has decisively chosen. One of the most important elements of contemporary European political culture is respect towards all citizens regardless of nationality and attention to the needs of ethnic and religious minorities. I hope that despite the sheer scale of challenges that Ukraine is facing today, the Cabinet of Ministers that you are now leading will devote attention to these matters as well.

One of the significant indicators of a nation''s readiness to join the European family is the process of restitution, wherein property once illegally seized by a totalitarian regime is returned to its original owners. Restitution is an important signal to investors, showing that the state is ready to guarantee property rights. We believe that Ukraine is ready to attempt to solve this difficult problem, and we would like to assure you that this step will be appreciated by both our own society and international partners.

This year Kyiv will be commemorating one of the most horrific tragedies of World War II—the shootings at Babiy Yar that took place 65 years ago. We are positive that this important event, which will doubtlessly be followed by the global community, will be held according to the highest standards.

On our part, we are ready to help in preparing commemorative events and are ready to cooperate in any other matters of mutual interest. We are certain that the constructive partnership that the Jewish community and the Ukrainian government have enjoyed in recent years will blossom further with you as Prime Minister.

                  Respectfully,

                  Julius Meinl
