                  Hungarian Consul Blaumann visits Jewish community of Almaty

                  On Novmber 8, the Consul General of Hungary in Almaty Ferenc Blaumann visited the local Jewish community and met with the head of the Jewish community of Kazakhstan, Alexander Baron, in the Mitzvah Association office.

                  Alexander Baron, who is the chairman of Mitzvah, member of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan and the Presidium of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, briefed the guest of honor on community charity programs and international projects. Mr. Blaumann visited the Rimon communty center and expressed a high opinion of the community’s work.

                  The delegation also visited the Moris Simashko Republican Jewish library. Mr. Blaumann was the first guest of honor on the library premises before its official opening.

                  Matters under discussion included joint work on a number of projects, as well as cultural exchange of experience and knowledge.

                  Mr. Blaumann was also presented with a selection of books printed by the community, including the results of a large-scale scholarly project, the International Historical Conference. The International Historical Conference has printed collected papers on the refugees and evacuation process in World War II and the history of the Jews of Central Asia and Western Siberia.
