EAJC founders discuss the future of the Congress

                  02.03.2017, Region

On February 27-28, the representatives of the founding member communities of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC General Council Chairman, Co-President of Vaad of Ukraine Josef Zissels, and EAJC Secretary General, President of Vaad of Russia Michael Chlenov) held a number of meetings dedicated to the futher development of the Congress. Vice President of the Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan, EAJC Presidium member Alexander Baron also participated in the meetings long-distance.

After the working meeting of the Congress leadership that was held in Berlin in January, it became apparent that the disagreements on the future of the EAJC and the character of its actibities, which were building between the EAJC President Julius Meinl and the representatives of the founding member communities of the Congress over the last three years, have come to a head. Many participants of the discussion believe that at this point the disagreements have become both a system and a matter of principle.

Four EAJC offices have been working to implement multiple community, educational, youth, scholarly, publishing and other programs without any kind of financing from the EAJC President since the third quarter of 2016, even though allotting such financing is the President’s duty that is entrenched in official Congress documents.
