The EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels has taken part in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Jewish school in Chernivtsy, which was one of the first state schools with an ethnocultural component in the former Soviet Union.

The Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress General Council Josef Zisels has taken part in the introduction of the Torah scroll to a historic synagogue in Chernivtsy, open after restoration.

On October 2, the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress will hold the memorial evening “Babiy Yar. 70 Years” at the National Palace of Arts “Ukraine.”

On September 22, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress held a press conference on the UN vote about the Palestinian state in the Moscow Independent Press Center. Speaking at the press conference, EAJC Secretary General Michael Chlenov voiced the position of the Congress about the unilateral proclamation of the Palestinian state by the Palestinians, and of the possible vote on acknowledging these states at the UN General Assembly. This position was clearly pronounced in the Congress statement, which stresses that “unilateral actions, which are unambiguously excluded by these legal documents, will make the entire preceding peace process meaningless, moving it backward to far beyond its starting point.”

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress General Council Chairman, Chairman of the Association of Jewish Organizations and Communities (VAAD) Ukraine Josef Zisels met with Pavel Klyamkin, the First Deputy of the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, as part of a delegation of leaders of the Ukrainian Jewish community. The meeting was the Ministry's answer to the Josef Zisels' August appeal to the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantine Grischenko, which included a proposal to discuss the relevant problems of Near East regulation and Ukraine's position at the Durban 3 conference at the UN General Assembly.

On September 18-19, the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 70th year since the Babiy Yar tragedy took place in Kyiv. The conference took place at the initiate of the people's deputy of Ukraine, President of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee Alexander Feldman. On September 18, the participants of the conference took part in a mourning ceremony in Babiy Yar itself. On Sepember 19, the working meetings of the conference took place on the premises of the Ukrainian Parliament.

The Jewish communities of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) region continue their work on explaining the position of the Congress on the upcoming UN vote about the Palestinian request for membership. The Jewish leaders turn to the foreign affairs ministries and the leadership of their countries with calls not to support the gamble pressed by the Palestinian leadership upon the global community. On September 21, the conference “Public Heritage: Understanding of the Holocaust in Ukraine. International Efforts in Education, Study and the Defense of Mass Burials.” The event was initiated by the Ukrainian Jewish Committee (President – People's Deputy of Ukraine Alexander Feldman) and the American Jewish Committee, represented by its International Jewish Affairs Director, OSCE Special Representative on Anti-Semitism rabbi Andrew Baker.
